Mario Barzaghi
Mario Barzaghi was born in 1954 in Milan. From 1974 to 1981 he trained as an actor in TEATER 7, a theatre group composed of workers, students and teachers. From 1981 to 1994 he was an actor with Teatro Tascabile di Bergamo. At the time the work demonstration An Athlete of the Heart and the performance piece Divine Fragments of a Journey into Hell were created. Barzaghialso trained as a kathakali actor-dancer with Master John Kalamandalam, with whom he performs in Europe and India. He works intensely as a teacher, including at universities in Italy and abroad. In 1999, with Rosalba Genovese, he formed the Teatro dell’Albero Cultural Association. In 2013 they were joined by Maria Rita Simone. He collaborates with TeatroDueMondi, Teatro Rebis, Teatro Persona, Teatro dei Venti, Teatro Le Galpon, Theatre-L (Switzerland), Odin Teatret (Denmark), Geneva-based composer Robert Clerc and Serge Martin. He plays in Sancho Panza and Non Chisciotte, together with the play’s director Tage Larsen (Odin Teatret). He took part, as a guest master, in several work sessions of Regula contra Regulam, a project supported by the Grotowski Institute. In recent years he has directed many productions for several Italian and foreign theatre companies. He created a theatre research project called “Magnolia”, working on the border between theatre and dance. He’s a trainer in a programme run by the Mus-e foundation.
