The Grotowski Institute, Wrocław, Poland

Closed workshops and work demonstrations for the students of the PWST National Academy of Theatre Arts in Kraków, Branch in Wrocław, and the Oslo National Academy of the Arts led by Ditte Berkley, Przemysław Błaszczak and Kamila Klamut (Teatr ZAR), members of the Jubilo group and Sankar Lal Sivasankaran Nair (Studio Kalari)

Teatr ZAR

Teatr ZAR is a multinational group that was formed in Wrocław by apprentices of the Grotowski Institute and took shape during annual research expeditions to Georgia between 1999 and 2003. During these expeditions, the apprentices collected much musical material, including a core of centuries-old polyphonic songs that are probably the oldest forms of polyphony in the world. The name of the group, ZAR, is taken from the title of funeral songs, which in Caucasian tradition, among others in Svaneti, are the essence of singing understood as “column of sound”.

Jubilo

Jubilo is a theatre group born in 2011 in Wrocław, Poland. The project’s core artistic team consists of actors and musicians from Poland, Canada and Italy. Jubilo is an artistic call against cultural exclusion and social marginalisation. It aims to disintegrate social, economic, language and cultural barriers through artistic encounters, where the platform of exchange is the language of theatre and music.
