Jozef Frucek
A founding member of RootlessRoot. He graduated from the Academy of Music and Theatre of Bratislava, completing his PhD in 2002. From 2002 to 2005 he was a member of Wim Vandekeybus’ Ultima Vez, co-creating Blush (stage and film versions) and Sonic Boom. From 2005 to 2006 he collaborated with the Royal Flemish Theatre in Brussels (KVS) developing his own work. In 2006 he and Linda Kapetanea formed RootlessRoot as a vehicle for their own productions, research and teaching (see below). Together with Kapetanea, Frucek is developing the Fighting Μonkey research programme, an applied methodology of martial arts in the education of dancers, actors and movement practitioners. They regularly give workshops at international festivals and in schools. From 2006 to 2011 Frucek and Kapetanea taught at the Athens State School for Dance. Since 2012 Frucek has been on the teaching staff of Ludwik Solski State Drama School in Kraków, Poland. He has been guest professor at Stockholm’s University of Dance and Circus (DOCH).
